NAF (Natural Animal Feeds) produce a select range of canine products alongside our comprehensive equine range, and other products for poultry and game birds.
Dogs, just like horses, are maintained largely on complete diets. By and large these are great, but each dog is different and has his own individual needs for specific nutrients, depending on age, breed lifestyle etc.
The cultivated ingredients used to make complete pet foods are highly processed and mixed with preservatives in production. They are far removed from the diet the dog evolved to eat - meat, bone, offal, feathers, fur etc... which is why it could be argued that many health conditions experienced by the domestic dog have only evolved in more recent years... with the advent of modern food manufacturing and processing.
The most common health conditions seen in dogs tend to be associated with joints and mobility. Dogs respond as well to nutritional support for joints as horses do, although their metabolism is different, so formulations need to be adjusted accordingly. Within our range NAF offer a choice of joint products for dogs, including a combination product called HipRite, which contains the correct proportions of glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate, MSM and antioxidants for maximum absorption by dogs. HipRite is available in a choice of liquid or capsules to suit personal preference. Our other canine joint supplements include an MSM product called Canine Comfort, and Canine Mobility, which combines glucosamine, MSM, antioxidants and Devil's Claw to provide nutritional support and comfort at the same time. (For more information on how these naturally sourced ingredients benefit joint integrity please see the equine section on Joints and Soundness earlier in this brochure).
Another condition often seen in the domestic dog is obesity. We produce a number of products that offer valuable nutritional support to canine digestion and weight control. Weight gain is often simply due to too much food and too little exercise, the age old 'killing with kindness' situation! Although neutering, breeding and dysfunctional digestion can all contribute to weight increase. Canine Slimline Formula contains yeast and digestive enzymes, combined with antioxidants to mop up excess toxins and specific trace elements to encourage the laying down of muscle tissue rather than fat. Canine Digestion helps to maintain digestive equilibrium and optimise gut function. It is ideal for short term use following a course of antibiotics, and can also be fed to dogs with a sensitive gut on a longer term basis.
NAF nutritional support products for dogs are formulated by the same world renowned veterinary scientists who produce the equine range. They utilise complex combinations of natural ingredients, aiming to put nature back into the canine diet.
While the benefits of feeding complementary foods to canines follow similar principles to those received by equines, it is always worth seeking the advice of a trained nutritionist to answer any specific questions or queries. The NAF Freephone Advice Line 0800 373106 is available for this purpose. If you are in any doubt about your dog's health do always call your vet first.
